OCS Workforce Transformation  

Introduction

OCS Group UK partnered with Pilot IMS to revolutionize their workforce in the security industry. This collaboration aimed to enhance skills, improve safety measures, and elevate customer experiences at NEC Group events.

Challenges

OCS’s workforce was at times dependent on agency staff to support their operation and relied on traditional recruitment strategies. OCS identified a need for their own highly skilled, motivated, and customer-focused workforce and therefore adapted their approach to find a credible solution.

Solution

Pilot IMS introduced Sector-Based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs) to empower West Midlands residents, participants are generally from the local community with a focus on those who are disadvantaged or vulnerable and long-term unemployed aligning with Pilot’s and OCS Group UK’s Social Values commitment.

The program includes a rigorous four to eight-week training course, equipping participants with essential skills and qualifications in security, visitor management, and stewarding. OCS has supported the program by providing guaranteed interviews, ensuring a seamless transition into employment.

Outcomes

The partnership to date has resulted in over 145 residents moving into employment, enhancing operational excellence, spectator safety, and customer experiences.

The program has led to:

  • Enhanced operational excellence with a cohort of skilled employees contributing to OCS Group’s event operations.
  • Elevated spectator safety through improved crowd management and emergency response.
  • Improved customer experience with heightened event attendee satisfaction.
  • A workforce of highly trained personnel qualified to work in both security and event management settings.
  • OCS reduced reliance on agency staff, cutting costs while improving service quality.

The program received recognition with OCS winning the Large Employer Award at the WMCA Adult Skills Awards.
